NGS Assay Planner

A vendor-neutral planning tool for comparing plausible NGS assay strategies before detailed design begins.

NGS Assay Planner browser interface with project definition fields

Purpose

Sequencing projects can lock onto a platform or panel before target breadth, sensitivity, enrichment, workflow, and validation consequences are made explicit.

My role

Product designer, domain expert, and engineer

Status

prototype

Methods

  • TypeScript
  • Deterministic rules
  • Typed planning models
  • Validation-aware reporting
  • Scientific UX

Outputs

  • Interactive planning report
  • Strategy comparison
  • Risk and validation checklist

Result

A working browser prototype that makes assay-planning assumptions and tradeoffs inspectable.

Implementation

How it works

A deterministic TypeScript rules engine compares amplicon, hybrid capture, exome, whole-genome, and metagenomic strategies using stated requirements, tradeoffs, risk flags, and validation considerations.

The browser build mirrors a Python reference implementation and uses static example scenarios, cost tiers, and vendor examples. It remains planning-only and requires expert review.
